A Y U R V E D A

What is ayurveda? Ayurveda means "the science of life." It is the world's oldest holistic health science and widely believed to be the mother of all of the world's medical systems. It is a sister science to yoga and to Vedic Astrology (Jyotish).
• According to Ayurveda our bodies are composed of 5 elements: Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth
Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are the Sanskrit terms used to describe how these elements combine to form our bodies
• No two people have exactly the same combination of these elements and therefore no two people should be treated exactly the same. It is said, “one person’s poison is another’s medicine;” no one solution is right for everyone.
• Your Constitution: We are born with a particular combination of these 5 elements. This combination is called your basic constitution or prakruti.
• Your Current State: Though your basic constitution does not change, the state of these elements in your body can change. The state of these 5 elements in your body at a given moment is called vikruti. Your vikruti is in balance when when it is roughly the same as your prakruti, or basic constitution.
• The imbalanced state of these elements is what we call DIS-EASE.  By bringing the body back into balance we can live a more harmonious and balanced life.
